Namaste.
As you breath out you join your palms together in front of your chest. Breath in, close your eyes and slightly bow your head. By this gesture you acknowledge and honour the beautiful and divine within you as well as the beautiful and divine within all others. Do you start your yoga practise with it? And do you repeat it again at the end of your yoga practise? Maybe not. Maybe it is something that your yoga teacher uses and you never paid too much attention to it. Well, lets have a look at the meaning of it. The beauty and power of this practise is in the fact that together with acknowledging the other person you are acknowledging yourself at the same time. We don't have many practises in our culture that would encourage us to honour our own good qualities. But the truth is that without finding the positive qualities of kindness, love, wisdom, beauty and truth within ourselves first we struggle to recognise them within others. Practise of Namaste takes us to our heart centre and suggests that we cannot be a part of the immortal universe unless we live in harmony with our hearts. Only then we can live in harmony with others. Remembering to practise Namaste with your fellow yoga practitioners can be very powerful way of connecting together and expressing your respect to each other, your teacher and everyone else who is on the journey of self-discovery. You can also include Namaste in your own individual home yoga practise. If practised in solitude, Namaste expresses your respect to the qualities within you which you share with everyone else. It also expresses the belief that we all share a piece of divinity within us and when we access this piece then we are truly connected to one another. We are the same! Namaste.
