Answers to frequently asked questions

Remedial & Relaxation Massage. What's the difference?
Remedial massage with Marie offers relief from your tight muscles and chronic pain conditions. Generally speaking all forms of massage are in some ways remedial. The word remedial means ‘intended as a remedy or cure’.

If you suffer from muscle tension, injury or chronic pain, a remedial massage can be quite effective in providing the relief you desire.

By working with Marie, she will assess your condition and provide the most appropriate treatment specific to your needs. Along with the remedial massage provided by Marie, she can also integrate trigger point therapy, myofascial release techniques and assisted stretching to ensure your treatment is targeted to your condition.

Relaxation massage uses more gentle and longer flowing massage strokes to help loosen your muscles and joints so your body can find a state of ease and comfort. A relaxation massage can be just the remedy for those times when you deserve some peace, quiet, relaxation and pampering.

Gift vouchers for a relaxation massage with Marie are a great birthday or anniversary present and are also a perfect gift to say "thank you" to special people in your life.

I only play sport socially. Will I benefit from a Sports & Deep Tissue Massage?
Yes, most definitely. Sports massages prepare your muscles and tendons so you can improve your performance potential while pursuing your sporting aspirations. Sports massages can be an integral part of your training regime whether you're a weekend warrior, enthusiastic social athlete or if you're fully committed to being the best you can. You can benefit from a sports massage with Marie whether you're a weekend warrior, dedicated or professional athlete or even just participate socially.

Having a sports massage before your sports event will warm the muscles and ready them for the intensity required for you to be at your best. Having a sports massage after you've completed your event will relax your muscles, decrease tension and aids in faster recovery.

As part of your training regime and even in between sporting events, a sport massage can help to resolve or manage many underlying niggling injuries.

The primary goal of a deep tissue massage is to reduce deep seated sources of pain thus improving the body’s ability to heal itself. Deep tissue massages help to lengthen and release muscles that may have become stuck in uncomfortable and restrictive holding patterns.

Scar tissue in muscles from long-forgotten injuries can be broken down with deep tissue massage and promote improved blood flow and greater ease in your general movements.

Is Pregnancy Massage safe?
When it is performed by a qualified practitioner it is and pregnancy massage can make the special time of pregnancy even more special! Having massages whilst pregnant has been shown to be safe for you and your yet to be born child.

Having massages with Marie while pregnant will ease many of the aches and pains your body will experience as your child develops and grows within you. Back pain, sciatica, leg cramps and hip pain are quite common during pregnancy and regular massages can help you to manage these conditions more comfortably. Pregnancy massages can also ease the fluid retention associated with pregnancy. Pregnancy massage not only feels good, it stimulates the production of special hormones that help you feel more relaxed and calm.

For the massage itself, most women are comfortable to lie on their backs and stomach during the first trimester. However, as your baby bump grows during the second and third trimesters, laying on your stomach can be uncomfortable or impossible! To accommodate for these wonderful changes your body is going through, Marie will perform your massage with you in a side-lying position and use a special pillow to support the upper part of your body.

Pregnancy massage ... a wonderful treat for you and your baby.

Yoga & Meditation explained

Yoga, even using the most basic of poses can improve the quality of your breathing, de-stress the body and de-clutter your mind. Yoga is an ancient tradition of personal development and you might probably recognise yoga as a series of different poses (also known as  asanas). What you might not know is that yoga offers life quality enhancing benefits beyond providing you with greater flexibility, strength and more poise.

Another very appealing aspect about yoga the way that Marie teaches, is that you don't need to be very flexible to experience it's benefits.

There's no doubt that yoga poses help to stretch your tense muscles and strengthen weakened or lazy muscles. Improved posture, more effective breathing, better digestion and overall body metabolism are some of the wonderful natural side effects experienced by people who practice yoga. In addition to these physical benefits, yoga can help you to improve concentration and bring a sense of peace to your daily life.

Meditation
is a practice that allows you to find a state of deep peace by allowing your mind to become calm and silent. Meditation is a very effective strategy to help you remain focused during the activities and stresses of your daily life. Without realising it, your yoga practice can induce this same calmness and silence. Of course, meditation can also be a stand alone practice and Marie can help you develop your meditation skills.
